Art in the Garden

Art in the Garden
Augusta, KY

This past weekend I participated in Art in the Garden in Augusta, KY.,
a great one-day art show in a small river town on the beautiful Ohio River.

The above pic is of my booth..

This was the view I had behind me,
the ferry boat crossing over to Ohio

And this beautiful gate and garden was the
view I saw all day.
This is a private garden and is gorgeous.

Parkview Inn
where we stayed.
This adorable little hotel was completely remodeled about 30 years ago by friends of ours.
It has about 10-12 rooms and a restaurant.
We ate there Friday night and they had a combo playing, a keyboardist and a guitar player
and then they had a great singer who did a tribute to Rosemary Clooney.
Rosemary and her brother Nick Clooney grew up in Maysville, another town nearby,
and then Nick and Nina raised their children Aida and George,
yes, the George Clooney in Augusta.

I used to own a florist business in Augusta and I did the flowers for Aida's wedding and for Rosemary's 60th birthday party.

I did lots of weddings and proms, every day and funeral arrangements while I was there.
I rented my store from Nina.

She had an antique store there before me and has once again opened her store back up.
When Jim and I stopped in on Friday, she was in her cute shop, called, what else, Nina's
making tags to mark products with.

Below is Nina in the middle with Aida on the left
and I'm sorry to say I didn't get the name of the lady on the right.

This is one of my free standing walls.
My husband made them for me from plans I purchased on line.
I have four of these walls.  Here I put three together in a triangle so you could walk all the way around.  The other one we hung from the frame work of my tent and hung paintings on it as well.

Here's a view of one of the other three walls.

I took my painted slate roof shingles and some garden stones.
I sold a lot of them and they basically paid all my expenses for the weekend,
and then I met a great couple,
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Clay.

They were from Bourbon County and we had a great conversation.

Meet Sam Clay, the new owner of "The Hideout"
the painting of the crested grebe I painted from the Paint My Photo.com
March challenge honoring one of their past contributors, David Smith, known as pixel bloke on their website.

Sam is a farmer and he and his wife take turns selecting and purchasing art at art fairs and galleries
and he stood there and looked at this piece for quite a while and then quietly said
"I'll take it".

I hope you enjoy it Sam as much as I did making it.

I made a video of the progression of this painting.

  2. Thanks Cathy. It was a great day on many levels. I got to re-connect with lots of people I haven't seen in years, I sold some art, but maybe best of all is the opportunity to talk with people about my art, the how and the why of it. It is a lot of fun to meet and talk with people who like what you do. Better than a sugar high! hehe.

  4. thanks Barb, it was a wonderful day. I did meet lots of people who were interested in my art and had many conversations about my art. All good things. Thanks for the complement on my booth. That's one of the really fun things I like to do. I always loved to do the windows of my florist shop and this is an extension of that.

  6. Thanks for showing us so much of your booth and views. Next best thing to being there, I think. I wish I could have been there and seen your work and booth in person. You obviously put a lot into it, and therefore got a lot out of it! Congratulations...
