Yes! We Actually Painted Wine Glasses

 Painting Actual Wine Glasses

In February at Eagle Creek Vineyard tasting room a great group of creatives came together to paint on wine glasses.  

Everyone painted 2 wine glasses.

We painted flowers that you could see the centers of by looking into the glass.  It is an interesting process and you have to keep reminding yourself to look into the glass to see how it looks.  

We had a fun family join us for the first time and 

I think they really enjoyed the class.

Painting the stems is an aspect of the class 

where people really let go and let their creativity shine.

Here's the inside of Jeff's glass

Everyone selected their own colors to use 

and we had none of them alike.  

Dave's 2 glasses were different. 

Jaclyn's glasses were a light pink and then she did 2 for her mom who couldn't come because she was quarantined.

Those 2 were a deeper pink and they were gorgeous but I forgot to take a pic of them.

 

Eden was our youngest painter and she 

really got into making her glasses her own.

This was a fun group that really let their creativity shine.

We took the masks off for a few seconds to snap this pic.

Everyone took their wine glasses home with instructions to bake them in their oven to set the paint.

Before you paint, wash your glass and then wipe off with alcohol.  Paint using craft paint for glass.  When you're finished put your glasses in a cold oven and then turn the oven on to 325 degrees.  Once it comes up to temp, set the timer for an hour.  After that hour, turn the oven off and let the glasses cool down inside the oven.  Do not take the glasses out until the oven is completely cool.

The glasses are supposed to be top rack dishwasher safe after that, but I'm not certain about it and I don't think I'd put them in there.  

They are safe to drink out of because the paint is on the outside of the glass and safe to wash carefully.

 What Fun Ladies To Paint With

I recently painted with 2 ladies that were so much fun and I enjoyed their company so much. 

I hope we paint together again soon.

On the Indiana side I painted with Marie.

We had a great class, talk, visit,

whatever you'd like to call it.

We had a great time painting these

 2 cats sitting in the moonlight.

Then I headed to the Kentucky side of the river

 to paint with Georgia.

She also painted the cats in the moonlight.

Georgia and I found we had very many things in common

and she also did a super job on her cats.

Private Party - Boy That Was Fun!!!

Recently I was asked to teach a painting class at an invitation only event at Eagle Creek Winery Tasting Room 

in Warsaw, KY.

This group of women came ready to paint and have FUN!

We painted lighthouses.

Everyone made their lighthouse their own. 

There was lots of giggling going on

as the lighthouses began to take shape.  

This was one really fun bunch of painters.

I'm still laughing.

The winner of a painted slate shingle and an Eagle Creek towel with her loot.  

This party was a blast.

We Sold The Farm

Yep!

We Sold The Farm!

We've packed up 20 years of life

and have moved about 40 miles to the south nearer to 2 of our 4 children and their families.

Yes, right in the middle of the pandemic of the Coronavirus, 

we moved.  

We had to wear masks and gloves for one closing,

This was taken outside the closing on the farm.

This was at the closing in the parking lot on our new house.

and on the porch of our new home. 

As you can see the yard is a mess but 

Jim will be whipping that into shape real soon, I'm sure. 

Here's a short video of my new studio in it's raw stage.

It had ugly green carpet on the floor and my husband Jim ripped it up, at my encouragement and more likely insistence 

and I've ordered new flooring.

Hopefully it will arrive this week and we'll get that down and I can move forward in getting my new studio up and running.

I don't want to bring all my stuff in here, and then have to move it out to put the flooring down.  

I'm really not good at doing things twice for no good reason.  

I brought in just enough stuff so I could teach 

a class to my online friends.

5 Things Every Artist Should Do/Know

Yea yea yea!

There's lots more than 5 things,

but these 5 things can make or break you 

before you even get started.

 and I am trying to help all beginning artists focus on what will bring them the most bang for their buck, so to speak.

I put this first because as an artist, you will be studying and learning about color for the rest of your artistic life.

I put practice as #2 because  many beginning artists think that they're just going to go in there and paint a master piece immediately and that couldn't be further from the truth.  

You have to learn some stuff and then you have to practice that stuff.  It's just the nature of the beast.  If you want to get good at anything you have to make time for it and practice.  

There is no other way!

Comparing your art to someone else's art

will only break your heart.

Not because they are better than you, but because you're comparing so you already think they are better than you.  

STOP THAT!

You also don't want to compare another artists 20th year work

 to your first year work.

That is a real recipe for disaster and a short lived art career.

I hope that doesn't sound like I'm talking down to you

because I'm not.

What I am saying, is recognize you're a beginner 

and you have things to learn, study and practice on 

before you're going to get good.  

Don't set out to paint that gorgeous sunset with layers of hills, light streams, animals, fences, grasses, a barn and a house before you have spent some time learning about color.

Practice in bites adding things as you go.

Many beginning artists doubt themselves and their ability because they don't have any "talent".

A lot of painting and drawing is skill.

Skill comes with putting miles on the brush or pencil.

Talent is able to come out as you develop skills.

Paining With Gifted and Talented Kiddos!

Gift and Talented Kiddos

This past week I had a great opportunity to paint with a super group of kiddos in Carroll County Kentucky.  

We took over the art room at the high school and had a blast painting a beach scene with flip flops in the sand.

I had several middle schoolers and high schoolers and a teacher who did a super job painting.

there were lots of giggles and paint splatters.

 There was some after school snacking, giggling

and painting going on in this great art room.

Everyone stayed busy and focused on their art.

And finally,

We are finished 

and didn't they do a great job.  

They all must love yellow flip flops!  

How fun is that.

WOW! Was I Ever Blown Away!

What An Incredible Class!

Saturday I taught at General Butler State Park

in Carrollton, KY and I was blown away

 by how many of you showed up.

I have never had more than 12 come to classes at the park

and Saturday, on a cold, gloomy, rainy day nearly 30 people showed up.

The problem was, I only had canvases for 25.

I am so sorry I had to turn people away and

I hope you will join me again next month.

I try to always be prepared but I was not prepared for that huge group that came Saturday.

Having said that -

We had a wonderful time painting this fun barn.

I heard lots of

"I'll never get that barn on there"

and

"We'll be here till midnight getting this done"

but everyone did get their barn on their canvas and we were not there til midnight, 

but we finished right at 2 p.m. as planned.

but she hung with the adults like a Champ.

More painters at another table.

We canceled the defibrillator to get the tree painted.

There were no heart attacks as we got the tree 

and then the fence painted on.  

This was such a fun painting with a 

wonderful group of people to paint with. 

We'll be painting again at General Butler State Park on February 15.  

We may be in the rec center at the park because of the crowd and the park will be running a Valentine's special and this class might be part of the package deal.

We'll be painting a fun beach scene.  

We all want to be at the beach, right!

we can create all other colors.
