Fall Vintage Trucks All Around

 Vintage Trucks Full of Pumpkins

What a great Saturday we had at

General Butler State Park in Carrollton, KY

recently painting these fun vintage trucks.

This small group really got into making

 this painting their own.

She really had the color going on.

Check out that palette.

Janice's husband restored a similar vintage truck in a green shade.  She painted hers to correspond

 with his truck.  (AWE!  Sweet!)

That's one of the things about this type of class, you can and should add your own personality in your painting, making it any color you choose.

I teach a method and you use that method

to make it your own.

Deep in concentration.

Lots of safe space.

Making that truck her own.

It's easy to see how these artists really turned this step by step instruction into their own masterpieces.

I usually do a video of every class I teach, but for whatever reason, the video of this class did not turn out.  Not sure what happened there.

This was a fun group and I would loved to have had them on video.

Thanks so much to all who came.

I had a wonderful time and I hope you did as well.

I have a YouTube channel and on there I have a video of how to frame your painting.  Click HERE to go to that video.

I have a boatload of videos on there for beginning painters, so why not give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel while you're there.  All the videos are specifically for beginning painters in an effort to help you shorten your learning curve.

And - It's FREE!

Speaking of FREE, I have a Facebook group -

Bucket List Artists -

that has also been created for the beginning artist and is free. I go live in there on Thursday at 1 p.m. EST and I've been at it for over a year so there are tons of videos on painting and drawing along with hints, tips and tricks.

Click HERE to go to Bucket List Artist Facebook Group, ask to join and then answer the 3 questions that pop up and you'll be in and able to scoop up all that art goodness.

I also have an instructional website where I have paid classes and a full blown art course as well as a free daisy painting class and a free art blog.

Click HERE to go to my website.

And finally, here's our class at General Butler State Park for November 21.  I think you're gonna love it.

Vintage Trucks and General Butler State Park

Vintage Trucks
and A Pumpkin Patch

I recently had the privilege of teaching a new group
of painters at my 3rd Saturday of the month class at General Butler State Park.

None of these painters had taken a class from me before.

We paint in the Mezzanine in the lodge at
General Butler State Park in Carrollton, KY

Check out the view!

Everybody got down to business painting a fun vintage truck loaded up with pumpkins.

These 3 sisters/friends came from Henry County
to paint for the day.

Here's our finished paintings.
As you can see we had varying colors of trucks and
lots and lots of pumpkins and fall trees.

And after the fun,
there is always the clean up.
Yep we used all those brushes.

I'm hoping that you're going to paint with us soon
on the 3rd Saturday of every month at
General Butler State Park, Carrollton, KY., noon - 2 p.m.
You'll paint an 8" x 10" painting on a canvas panel,

Paint, Even If You Haven't Painted In A While

Haven't Painted In A While???

Do NOT let that stop you!

Often times we paint a lot,
and then not so much.

Not sure how or why that happens, but it does.

Then when you're ready to pick up your brush again,
the "voice" comes to you telling you,
"well you haven't painted in a long time, may as well just forget it".

Ignore that voice, just like it's your three-year old asking "why" for the 1,000th time this morning.

Here is Aidan painting after not painting for a long time.

Dig out some reference photos, set up a still life,
put a flower in a vase, or paint something from your imagination or from memory.

Just sit down, spend an hour and play in the paint.

My grandson Aidan hadn't drawn or painted for a while,
but he was in the studio the other day while I was making a video for my youtube channel.

Click HERE to view my channel.

He got inspired and wanted to paint.

I taped some 140 lb. water color paper to a board,
set him up a palette and gave him 3-5 brushes and a pencil
and let him alone.

He drew a car, he's a boy, he likes cars and he has
 learned how to draw them.

Then he painted the car using a lot of color.
Then he asked me if he could mix colors.

I said, hey it's your painting and your paint.
Knock yourself out bubba.

He's 9 so I left him alone to paint anything he wanted,
any way he wanted.

You can tell by that smile, he was pretty tickled with his art.

We should all be tickled with our art,
even if it's just that we
learned a way how not to do something.

Don't let the "voice" talk you out of
learning and improving your art.
Regardless of your art form.

Don't let the "voice" tell you you can't do it.

Don't let the "voice" tell you you don't have time.

Don't let the "voice" tell you you don't have talent.

Don't let the "voice" tell you you don't have
a creative bone in your body.

Don't let the "voice" dictate your life.

Much of art is learning how things work, or the rules.

The rest is practice and learning how to break the rules.

This was Aidan at age 5 learning how to paint the rooster that is in my full blown art course.

He has always loved creating anything, and he wanted to try his hand at the rooster.

Practice and trying again and again is when the real magic happens.

Have a great creative day.

It's Been A While

It's Been a While

Yes it has!

As most of you may know, I've opened
449 Main St.,
Carrollton, KY  41004
and it has been a whirlwind for the past two months.

I have been setting up the gallery,
finding just the right artists for you to enjoy their work,
teaching classes,
and all things retail.

I haven't had much time to paint,

But, I had this one painting that bugged me because I was never really happy with it.

This is where it started.
Actually, that's not 100% true.
This is it after I re-did it the first time.
This painting and I have quite a history.

Final, final, final version.

As you can see, I enlarged the rocks as they got closer to the foreground.
I took out all the plant life on the closest rock piles.
I sped up the water and changed it's color in the foreground.
Made it more rugged, (I hope).

Finally, something I am happy with.

24" x 18" unframed acrylic on a panel.

Artful Campaigning

Artful Campaigning

My Son In Law, Eric Stewart is running for Family Court Judge
in Logan County, Ohio.

I am up at their home in Bellefontaine, OH working on the campaign for a few days.

(it's pronounced Bell - fountain).

Any way
today on the campaign trail,
I drove my 14 year old grandson around out in the county
as he knocked on doors campaigning for his father.

Isn't he just the cutest???

He has helped organize the routes of 36 precincts
with all the people who regularly vote in the primaries.

He has gone out every day to spread candidate love,
and flyers and signs everywhere,
after he has done early morning seminary,
practiced the piano and
done all his homeschool work
every day for weeks.

What we learned along the road today was everyone,
OK most everyone
has an artistic bone in them somewhere.

We were out in the county, not in a city or a town,
but out in corn and cattle country,
and we saw some really cute things people decorate their yards and homes with
to make it their own.

This super cute piece was made by a little old pipe smoking man out of tree bark and other scraps.

When I asked him if I could take a picture of it,
he wanted to show me the real animals he had in his little barn.

He had two little donkeys and one of them made quite the fuss when
we were introduced.
The gentleman was quite the character
but looking at his very neat little home and not a thing out of place barn,
you wouldn't know he had much of a sense of humor
until your eye caught this.
He had it outside on a wall of his garage.
The only decoration I could see,
but isn't it adorable.

I don't know the story behind this little gem,
but it was too cute not to photograph.

This guy said his yard was a work in progress,
but let us add to it by putting a sign in his tastefully decorated front yard.

You can see the vibrant color of this log cabin barn quilt on this huge grain farm.

The world can never have too many guard dog gargoyles.

Industrial Yard Art.

I told you this was corn and cattle country, right?

Another success story,
as Caleb places another sign in this front yard.

Here's candidate Eric Stewart,
Future Logan County Family Court Judge.

It's late,
we're all tired,
but we've had a great day of campaigning
in the heartland.

Thanks for checking in with us today.

Day 2 - Grazing

Day 2 - Finished

Well
I've made it through the first 2 days of the 30 paintings in 30 days.

Grazing is a fun painting of an abandoned old pick up truck.

I took the photo of this truck sitting in a body shop,
and the angle I photographed it from, had a barn in the background.
I wanted the truck out in a field, abandoned,
but I'm sure there is an interesting story to go with this truck.

I'd bet this truck has been driven a lot of miles,
hauled a lot of stuff,
and maybe broke down in the field.

See What you Missed at Quad's tonight!

This is what you missed tonight at the Quad's Classic Car show in LaGrange, KY.

A new sculpture by Robbie Mueller he was working on at Gallery 104.

This guy is sculpted onto a crock jug.

He's entirely too creative.

I painted out on the sidewalk.

I'll post a photo of that painting maybe Monday.

Tom and Mary Kinney's studio down the street

He makes some fabulous jewelry and awesome photography.

Mary is a very creative painter and writer.

Isn't this the cutest studio.

This is Tom in his jewelry studio.

Here in Angie Campbell's studio a little further down the street.
Amy Wellborn and Pam Tillman are on the left side of the table.
Mary Kinney and Angie Campbell are on the right.

They were working on collages.

There are 5 galleries on Main Street and during the Quad's car show they are open for a gallery walk.

And I walked and visited the three that were open.
