What A Mess That Was!
It has been bitterly cold here in Kentucky since Christmas.
I mean freeze your car to the driveway cold.
Freeze your doors shut cold.
Burst your water pipes cold.
Are you getting this?
I hadn't been to my studio for a while because of the cold.
I have a wood burning stove in my studio
and I frankly just didn't want to go out there and stay in that cold until I got the fire going and the studio warmed up.
Yesterday it was about 34 degrees,
which was like having a dag gone heat wave.
So out I went!
I figured my paints would be frozen,
my water jug would be frozen,
my tea kettle would be frozen.
Know what was frozen?
Everything in my mini fridge.
I store soda and water in there for students, workers and grandkids and other visitors.
Even though my fridge was plugged in and set on about 34, every soda can in there had frozen,
some split wide open,
it blew the door open,
and frozen soda and shrapnel was all over the inside of the fridge, on the shelves below and on the floor.
Honestly, there were metal pieces of soda cans all over.
My husband got a fire going for me
while I threw out all the frozen bottles and cans,
cleaned out the inside of the fridge,
took it apart and took the parts to the house to clean,
and mopped the floor.
Two hours later I finally got around to painting.
Here is a practice painting I did to calm my frazzled nerves.
Here's the final photo.
This was done rather hurriedly on 140 lb water color paper.
the background isn't perfect,
but it gave me a chance to get a brush back in my hand,
practice what I love, and get lost in my own personal therapy session for an hour or two.
Always a good thing.
If you're a beginning painter and are interested in learning from the ground up art concepts that will help move you forward, click HERE to view my website, built especially for beginning painters.
This page will tell you all about my full blown art course,
but if you scroll to the bottom you will see links where I give away a free Daisy painting class so you can see how I teach and you can try it before you buy it.
There is also a single subject Iris painting class there too.
Give it a look and if you have questions you can always contact me at slgraves6@gmail.com.
Put "questions about class" in the subject line.
Have a great day
and don't let your mini fridge freeze.
I really didn't know it could do that.
