Day 7 I'm a Chicken Painter

Day 7 and I painted a chicken.

I took the photo for this reference years ago at Stream Cliff Herb Farm
in Commiskey, IN.
It is a really fun place to go, they have beautiful gardens, a wonderful tea room,
tons of plants to buy and all sorts of goodies tucked in all around the farm.
They also have the farm animals.

It's in the middle of no where, but people, (like me) drive for miles to go and take in the beauty.

This chicken was sort of posing for me that day and I've been waiting to paint it and I decided it would be part of the 30 day challenge.

This is a 12" x 12" acrylic on a panel.

Wilderness Bluebird, Day 6

Wilderness Bluebird
My Uncle Bud lives at Wilderness Country Club in Naples, FL and he took the photo I painted this from on his balcony.

He has placed over 20 bluebird boxes on his golf course, cleans them and keeps meticulous records
on how many eggs are laid in each box and how many fledge.

He loves all birds, but he especially loves Eastern Bluebirds.

He probably has done more to bring the Bluebird back to his corner of the world than any other individual.

Trying to loosen up my painting style and had a lot of fun painting this.

6" x 6"
acrylic on panel.

Day 5, Cardinal #2

The first cardinal painting I did during the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge was lots of fun,
but I felt I had a lot to learn so I painted another one.

The learning curve on birds is pretty high and there may be another one coming soon without the snow.

Having a great time doing this challenge.

Here's both bird paintings next to each other.

You can see the one on the left is lots fatter, maybe he's colder and more puffed up.

The sky on the right is much bluer.

You can see all 250 artists paintings every day at lesliesaeta.blogspot.com

Day 4

Day 4
is from a photo I took out my back door this fall.

Love Skies.  Love them.

This one was lots of fun because of all the color and all the stick like trees.

Day 3

Anyone who follows me on fb know I love Becky Joy's art and particularly her skies.
I've been working on skies so I went to her blog and read several of her tips posts.
On one she said to play with the paint, the brush, the thickness and thinness of the paint and to not worry about knowing exactly where you are going.

I took her advice to heart and this is what showed up on my board today.

The sky was a ball as I used the colors she says are in every sky, purple, blue, green and white and I think she also said red.

I knew I wanted some whispy clouds so I just kept scrubbing to get them and then I started putting in the most distant mountains, and then I worked on the closest distant mountains.

Finally I added the foreground.

A fun day of learning and painting.

Day 2 Big Easy

Big  Easy
was one of the headlines of the day after the Louisville Cardinals won the Sugar Bowl over the
Florida Gators.

WoooHOOOOOO!

I actually went down to my studio to paint more skies and after I heard the news,
this fat little Cardinal popped up on my canvas.
Fat from doing the happy dance after scoring in the first 15 seconds and at will thereafter.

I can work on skies tomorrow.

Day 1 of the Leslie Saeta Challenge

Leslie Saeta is a super artist in Pasadena, California
who is also a marketing machine.
She paints beautiful seaside paintings among other things and she does it all with
nothing more than a pallet knife.
She also has "the most listened to art blog talk radio program".

She gave a shout out to her posse, of which I'm a card carrying member and issued a challenge.
Paint 30 paintings in 30 days.

Well here is my number 1 painting.

You can see all of the more than 250 participating artists on her blog
at http://lesliesaeta.blogspot.com/.
She's posting all the paintings on her blog everyday.

Big challenge, too fun, a lot of learning going on.

I'll post mine here everyday and on my fb page, but you can see it on her blog also.
