 Country Sunday afternoons,

sitting on the porch after church and dinner,

Rocking in a rocking chair,

or on the porch swing,

sipping lemonade,

with the scent of geraniums,

lemon verbena,

honeysuckle,

mint and lavender 

wafting around and getting an occasional whiff.

Lovely memories of friends and relatives

come back to you 

and visit on occasion.

These are the important things of life.

usually kinda scary.

I was painting on canvas paper and out hoped a few new types of paintings,

for me.

These daisies were an experiment and I really like the effect.

My first class was a success!!!

Of course I did only have one student who was able to make it,

but,

she did a great job and we met every goal I had for the night.

She completed her painting,

She did an excellent job,

We both learned a lot,

We had lots of fun.

Doesn't get any better than that.

 

Now,

Just in case you thought you couldn't do it,

here's proof you can.

Julie does have artistic ability

and she loves to draw,

but she'll tell you, there was very little drawing involved in this painting.

We put a few marks on with soft vine charcoal,

to give us a point of reference,

and the rest went on with a brush.

She had never painted on a canvas before.

So,

the proof is in the pudding,

or the painting.

I can't stand for good things to go to waste.

That's how this next project got started.

I made some garden stones out of recycled porch tiles.

A fellow artist at Gallery 104 had access to some old roof slates

and had seen my garden stones, so she thought of me.

 

These are old roof slates, you can see the nail holes in the top third,

They have been sealed, painted, and varnished with at least 3 coats of an outdoor varnish.

I thought they could be attached to a type of shepherd's hook for flags.

They would look so good near a front door or in a flower garden.

I will be taking them to Art in the Garden in Augusta, KY. June 1.

You can see  all the mineral deposit colors each slate.

None are exactly the same size, thickness or color.

They are true one of a kinds.

 

Echinaceas.

Love these, although the colors of two of these photos is not very good.

I only took about 30 pics and couldn't get these guys happy.

 The one below and the geraniums give an accurate look of all the stones.

Hydrangeas

Love hydrangeas with all their many shades of blue and pink and cream.

There will be more.

Fifth Street House

I lived in Carrollton, KY for about 8 years

and I used to walk around the block from my house a lot.

There was a beautiful old victorian home one block over that I loved.

They had a beautiful hydrangea bush that almost covered their porch.

I say had, because, a few years ago the bush was pretty torn up in a storm.

I snapped this photo probably 12-14 years ago,

and have kept it waiting to paint it sometime.

Now is the sometime.
