Whiling Away the Hours

Whiling Away the Hours
or
How Do I Stay On Track?
Do you find yourself logging onto your laptop, iPad, iPhone or other device and then look up and realize you just spent 2 hours on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, or some new social media craze?
Yeah!
It happens to everyone.
I'm going to give you one slick trick how to tame that beast.
Wait till you see the app I installed on my computer.
Be prepared to be amazed.
I told you you would be amazed.
It's a $5 timer.
When I go into my studio, the first thing I do is check my email.  Now I set a timer for let's say 30-45 minutes to check my most recent email.
Timer goes off, I'm done.
Now let's just say  I didn't get it all done in that time frame.
I give myself another 10-15 minutes, and
BOOM !
I'm done.
Time to move on.
Now, I need to check my facebook account to see if I have any likes, comments or shares and I want to post a few things.
You got it!
Set the timer for 15 minutes or whatever works for you.
I know I need to get the important stuff done before the buzzer goes off.  No scrolling for me.
I do the same thing with Instagram.
and Pinterest.
Now if I only had a speaker that went off screaming,
Sharon, back away from the computer.

  1. This is a marvelous idea. I tried timing myself but I didn't think of a timer going off. I would find just one more thing to look at.
All the media choices can be just too much.
I have found I cannot look at Pinterest and Instagram every day even though they are enticing. I get overloaded with all I have to do with my own stuff as it is.
When I take on too much I get to the point where II want to become an ostrich...and pretend to bury my head in sand. My blog is important to me, and yes...I know it doesn't get the numbers of viewers the others have but it is not "surface " stuff and I like the people I have met through blogging.
So I will try the timer idea and see what happens. Thanks Sharon. You are one wise woman/artist!

  2. Thanks Julie. I have a grandson who needs a timer for almost everything, so I decided to try it also. I save pinterest for when I'm sitting watching tv or something like that. I get more traffic from Instagram than facebook so I spend time on there every day, but I TRY to limit it to no more than 30 minutes.
