Cheap Canvas Product Review

Cheap Canvas Product Review

You're walking through a store and you see a stack of art canvasses and the price is unbelievable!

Your heart rate quickens, your palms get sweaty,
your eyes glaze over.

"Oh my gosh, these are so cheap.
Think what I could do with these".

I was in the Dollar Tree the other day and these 8" x 10" canvasses nearly fell off the shelf at me.

"OK". I said, "I'll bite".

Then I thought I'd do a review of this canvas before I used the one I bought up.

Click HERE to see the video.
(While you're on my YouTube channel, please click the thumbs up button and how about subscribing to my channel.  I come out with a new video every Friday.  Click that little bell when you subscribe and it will notify you when I release a new video).

Now that you've watched the video remember this,
"You Get What You Pay For!"

I wouldn't say never buy those cheap canvasses, but what I will say is this,
As you get better at painting, you should be using better tools and a canvas is a tool.
In the video you saw how the better canvas was more taught and the cheaper one was very springy or spongey.
You can watch the video to see how I compared it to the better canvas and what the results were.

Wow! It's Been A While!

Sometime Life Really Does Get In The Way!

I've been so busy putting our farm on the market, teaching classes, painting, volunteering at the art center, and getting a new class on my website,
I guess I forgot to tell you all about it.

I've taught this Red Vintage Truck class in person and I thought I'd make a class out of it for my website.

This online class is really two classes in one.  The drawing class and the painting class for this fun Red Vintage Truck.
Of course no one says you have to paint it red.
Pick you poison (color).
Click HERE to go to the class.
Use coupon code RTcm2019 at checkout for 25% off.
Coupon code ends midnight December 16, 2019.

I''m not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to tech stuff, so the fact I got it on my website without a major break down is a huge win for. me.

I've been volunteering at the Art Center of Switzerland County, in Vevay, Indiana.  It's actually right across the Ohio river from me and I am one of the 48 artists showing my work there.

Here's my display in the art center.
It's a large place with several floors.  They offer yoga, violin lessons, all sorts of art classes and I hope to be teaching some after the 1st of the year.

Thanksgiving was in there somewhere.

I did an arts and crafts show.

Took a granddaughter to a Kentucky game.

Worked on transforming our sun porch with hubby Jimbo.

That was a big job.

Got notecards made of some of my art.
 Love painting Ball Blue jars

These are iconic buildings in Carrollton, KY where I live.

This set was from a series I did on sunsets/sunrises.

And I got my Etsy shop back up and running.

So as you can see, nothing going on here,
probably much like your life.

The coupon code for the Vintage Red Truck class, RTcm2019 gets you 25% off the already low price of $9.99 bringing it down to an insane $7.50.
But it's only good until midnight, December 16, 2019.
So if it's calling your name, you better get a move on.  It would make a great gift for someone who wants to learn to paint
 or for yourself.

Click HERE to go to the class and get it before the sale price ends.

Hey,
don't the holiday season wear you out like I'm sure it will for me and all of you all.

Have a great week and let's paint together real soon.

Vintage Trucks and General Butler State Park

Vintage Trucks
and A Pumpkin Patch

I recently had the privilege of teaching a new group

None of these painters had taken a class from me before.

We paint in the Mezzanine in the lodge at

Check out the view!

Everybody got down to business painting a fun vintage truck loaded up with pumpkins.

These 3 sisters/friends came from Henry County
to paint for the day.

Here's our finished paintings.
As you can see we had varying colors of trucks and
lots and lots of pumpkins and fall trees.

And after the fun,
there is always the clean up.

I'm hoping that you're going to paint with us soon
on the 3rd Saturday of every month at
General Butler State Park, Carrollton, KY., noon - 2 p.m.
You'll paint an 8" x 10" painting on a canvas panel,

An Inspiring Trip

Finding Inspiration

We live in Kentucky

We have a son living in Utah

Jim and I headed to Utah to visit said son,
relax and soak up the beauty there.

Here's the real reason we headed to Utah.

2 of our 11 grandkids live there and we miss them.

We also have a grandson who is a student at BYU.
So of course we had to visit him.

This was the view out the window of my son's home.
I took lots of pics of the beauty that I saw at every turn and I want to share them with you.

It was harvest time while we were there and there were lots of tractors, harvesters and trucks everywhere as farmers tried to get their corn, onions and potatoes harvest.
The above tractor was set up to harvest onions.
We didn't get to see that in action, but they were harvesting onions and potatoes everywhere.
This was right out my sons door.
For 48 hours every field surrounding his home was a buzz of activity.  You can see the truck with the lights on.
It started early in the morning until late in the evening.

I love this building and I take pics of it nearly every time I go.

I drew this while I was there.

There are buffalo there as well and
they are pretty interesting animals.

This was a fun quick sketch I did trying to get the dimensions/perspective of these giants correct.

I photographed the roots of this tree because they are so interesting.  It really is part of the tree.

I was in a museum in Salt Lake City and saw and loved this little scene.  Don't be surprised if it shows up in a painting soon.

These are just 2 of the beautiful landscape photos I took while there.  Scenes like this excite every creative bone in my body and I
can't wait to start working on this.

This was a small sketch I did trying to get perspective correct for a future painting/s.  This was such a jaw dropping view I know I will use it many times in the future.
I won't paint it multiple times, but I will use parts of it and I will definitely look back at it just to get inspired again.

Utah is a dessert state, but there are marshes like this and I think they are beautiful.  This is inspiring to me as well.
I love to see the reflections in the marshes as well as the grasses.

Jim and I hoped on the Trax, the light rail system that runs in Salt Lake and cities near by.
We're country bumpkins and had a devil of a time figuring out how to pay to get on the thing.
In fact, a great young man helped us otherwise we might still be standing on the platform.

Now this is totally inspiring.
It and many of its friends are on display in the Greater Cincinnati Airport.
How fun is this big guy.

Jim and I needed some rest and relaxation after spending months getting our house on the market,
endured a devastating flood event, not of our making and making all the repairs from that.

Seeing our son and his family was wonderful, as was having the chance to rest and recuperate.
We saw some beautiful scenery,
enjoyed all the harvesting going on around us,
went to some of our favorite stores and restaurants,
and slept whenever we wanted.
Had no to-do lists.
Just enjoy our kids and the beauty available to all.

I feel like I'm rejuvenated and ready to get busy with all the activities I try to accomplish.

Thanks for stopping by today and
 let's paint together real soon.

17 Young Women and Pumpkin Paintings

The Paint Was Flying

with these 17 young women as they painted pumpkins.

This is a group of young women I taught at our church several weeks ago.  I know, I'm really behind on posting this.

We painted pumpkins, vines, leaves and polka dots.
Check out those smiles.

It's wonderful to look back at pics of classes and see the expressions on their faces.

Emily went out on her own with her painting,
but hey, it's her painting.
It's all good.

Even the Sister Missionaries got in on the fun.
Most of these young women were 12-18 or so.

Check out those fabulous paintings and all those happy smiles.
I had a great time teaching these young women

Fraternity Wives Paint
Wine Glasses
(film at 11)

These ladies have husbands
that met in college in a fraternity.

They have been renewing friendships for 31 years,
every September.
How special is that.

We all got together in early September and the ladies painted these fun wine glasses.

We were a little cramped
but I believe everyone had fun.
We're in a hotel room that had a living room as well as a bedroom.
We painted in the living room.

Everyone had 2 glasses to paint.
Most painted 2 dragon flies,
but several painted a dragon fly and a peacock feather.
There is always stress that sounds like
"I can't do it, Mine's a mess, or
Mine is terrible",
but everyone's turned out really cute I think.

Sometimes you have to use a hair dryer to
hurry the work along.
 They really are painting and
not just chit chatting.

And the proof is in the pudding.

I think they did a great job,
and I loved getting to know them.

It turns out Chris, the tall one in the back
actually was in one of my classes this past April at General Butler State Park.
Small FUN World!
